The Sheridan School District has received the 2023-2024 Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase District distinction, and five of the district’s schools have been named as CKH National Showcase Schools®. In 2023-24, only 40 school districts in the United State achieved this distinction.

According to the organization’s web site, “Capturing Kids' Hearts recognizes districts that go the extra mile each day to build an environment where students and staff feel safe and connected. We celebrate these district leaders and campus staff members who implement and model the Capturing Kids' Hearts Process.”

The five Sheridan School District schools that were honored were East End Elementary School, Sheridan Elementary School, East End Intermediate School, Sheridan Intermediate School, and East End Middle School. This is the second consecutive year that Sheridan Elementary, Sheridan Intermediate, and East End Intermediate have achieved this honor. In 2023-24, 612 schools nationally were named Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase Schools®.

“This is a tremendous honor for our school district and for these five individual campuses,” said Dr. Karla Neathery, superintendent of the Sheridan School District. “This distinction directly reflects the unwavering dedication and collaborative efforts of our students, staff, administrators, school board, and the entire school community. The recognition of our district and schools serves as a testament to the commitment held by all involved to foster a positive learning environment.”

According to a press release from Capturing Kids' Hearts, each year "National Showcase Schools undergo a meticulous selection process, evaluating essential performance indicators, collecting campus data, and seeking feedback from both staff and students. The outcomes reflect the successful integration of the Capturing Kids' Hearts Process, showcasing the unique culture and climate of each campus. Capturing Kids' Hearts applauds the Sheridan School District, where educators go above and beyond, fostering a secure, connected and enthusiastic learning environment for students."
