Girls basketball tryouts for next year's 7th-12th graders will be next week, with 8th/9th grade on May 13, 10th-12th on May 15, and 7th grade on May 16. (Note: the senior high tryouts are still subject to change.)
Volleyball tryouts for the 2024-25 season will be held soon. Varsity will be May 22, incoming 8th/9th will be May 16, and incoming 7th-grade will be May 13-14. Varsity tryouts will be in Yellowjacket Arena from 3:30-5:30 p.m., and middle school tryouts will be at the Sheridan Middle School gym from 3:30-5:30 p.m.
The Sheridan Lady Jackets trailed for much of the game, but gave a gutsy peformance and downed Maumelle 3-2 in extra innings today in the second round of the Class 5A state softball playoffs. They now advance to face the winner of Greenwood vs. Valley View in the semifinals. That game will be at 12 p.m. tomorrow in Harrison. Go Lady Jackets!

The Lady Yellowjacket softball team (25-2) defeated Van Buren 8-1 today in the first round of the Class 5A state playoffs. With the victory, Sheridan advances to the second round tomorrow against Maumelle (22-6-1) , which beat Searcy 4-0 today. Starting time for that game will be 12 p.m. Go Jackets, take State!

Sheridan Athletic Director Rick Treadway presented the Lady Yellowjacket softball team with the 5A South conference championship award yesterday. The presentation was made prior to the softball Senior Night ceremony. Sheridan finished the regular season 24-2- overall and a perfect 16-0 in conference play. They will play Van Buren in the first round of the state playoffs on Thursday at 10 a.m. in Harrison. Go Lady Jackets!

May 8 is National School Nurse Day, and we have some of the very best in the Sheridan School District! Since 1972, National School Nurse Day has been set aside to recognize school nurses. National School Nurse Day was established to foster a better understanding of the role of school nurses in the educational setting. Thank you to all our school nurses!
Sheridan baseball Coach Mike Moore was honored today in front of a large Senior Signing Day crowd at Yellowjacket Arena. Moore was presented a plaque/clock commemorating his 700th victory as a head coach -- a milestone reached earlier this season. Sheridan Athletic Director Rick Treadway made the presentation.

The Sheridan varsity boys' soccer team saved the best for last. The Yellowjackets took care of business Friday night, beating Texarkana 5-1 on Senior Night. Jordan Vang scored two goals, while Javone Mims, Jayden Beeson, and Caleb Harrison each scored a goal for Sheridan. It was a great way to close out the season! Way to go, Jackets! May 6-10, 2024 has been designated as National Teachers' Appreciation Week, which is a time for Americans to recognize the hard work and dedication of our nation’s teachers. In honor of mental health awareness week, the Sheridan School District would like to thank our school-based mental health professionals who support the students in our school.

The doors of the Fine Arts wing at SMS will be open from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on May 6. Take a stroll down the Fine Arts hallway at your leisure and view student artwork. Everyone is invited to attend: faculty, staff, students, parents, family and friends. Please come and help us honor the hard work and growth of our talented artists! (Students with artwork on display will be notified by their art teacher.)
Mrs. Todd's class would like to thank Shelby Taylor Trucking and Trayvis Todd for a hands-on learning experience about the importance of reforestation and protecting the environment we live in. A lot of eager little students are ready to learn more about Natural Resource Management and Forestry.
Also, a big thank you to the Department of Agriculture and Forestry and ArborGen nursery. The students were excited about being able to take home both a hardwood and a pine tree to plant.
